Whelehan, Betty (Friesner) 1920-2017
Rochester: Peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at age 96 years young. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving children, Patricia (David Barrett) Whelehan, Charles \"Craig\" (Linda) Whelehan; grandchildren, Rachel (Robert Haley) Galgoul, Shanna (Damien Hacker) Whelehan, and Patrick (Kelli Lynch) Whelehan; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Mason Hacker, Colin and Keegan Whelehan. Many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty retired from Eastman Kodak in 1982 as a foreman, in an era when women were yet to be viewed as leaders. She was a firm believer in education, loved politics, the game of golf, and \"the girls\", a lifelong group of friends she met with weekly, and cherished deeply.
Most important, Betty (Mom, Gram, Mamoo) was the matriarch, the backbone, the glue that held the family together. She lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love, energy, perseverance, and dedication, shaped who we are today and will provide us with an abundance of warm memories that will never be forgotten, and held close to our hearts eternally.
We would like to extend a special thank you, to the staff at Latta Road Nursing Home East, for providing love and care to Betty over the past six years.
The family will receive closest friends and family, Saturday, April 1st from 10am-12 at Thomas, immediately followed by a brief memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester, NY.
