Fleming, James F. Sr. USN (Ret.)
Irondequoit: Charlotte native James Francis Fleming Sr. of Irondequoit died Feb. 9, 2014 at the age of 89. Jim spent his youth enjoying the lower Genesee River area, and spent his retirement years around the fishing holes of western New York. Jim joined the US Navy in 1943 and served in England and later in France before and after D day respectively. At his request he was transferred to submarine service and served aboard four diesel boats. He served in the Navy 22 years and retired in 1965 as the OIC at the Rochester Recruiting station. He worked for Kodak until his retirement in 1982.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Alice Fleming, his sister Irene Diamond (Bill), his sister Alice Marie Marion(Thomas), his brother Jack, his sister Carol Smith(Dick).
He is survived by his wife of 60 years the former Mary M. Marsh of Jewett City, Ct., his daughter Mary Ann DiChesere(Mike), his son James Jr (Alicia), his son John (Ann Manning), his daughter Theresa Fleming-Schoeffler(David), all of whom live in the Rochester area and his son Joseph of Richmond, Va. Jim also leaves behind his sister Peg Fey(Bruce), his sister Katherine Folwell(Bill) of Ca. his brother Robert (Angie) of Phoenix,Az, his brother Bill(Barbara) of Mechanicsville, Md., grandchildren James III, Rachel, Kenneth, Amelia and Nicole, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many fishing buddies he has met over the years.
Family and friends may call at Thomas, (TODAY) Wednesday, 5-8pm. Funeral Mass, Holy Cross Church, Thursday 11am. Chief Petty Officer James F. Fleming USN (ret) will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
