Jeanne D. Sweeney

Jeanne, the daughter of the late William Raymond and Mary Adele Dorlac, was born in DeSoto, Missouri on March 14, 1931, where she was raised in a large and loving family. She graduated from the St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Saint Louis in 1953 and went on to complete her BSN magna cum laude at Boston College in 1959 while working in various capacities as a maternal and child health nurse. She married Dr. Thomas R. Sweeney in 1954 and, after he completed further training and military service in Buffalo, Quantico (VA), and Boston, moved to Rochester, New York in 1960. She helped Tom open the first Obstetrics practice in Greece, New York and went on to raise three children in Irondequoit. She was a prayerful and active member of her parish, who was happy to help however she was needed. She served as president of the Rochester Area Right to Life Committee for eight years and was awarded the Leo Holmsten Human Life Award in 1999.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Thomas R. Sweeney, their children Tom (Anna Maria), John (Maura Louise), Maura Anne (Kevin), six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her brother Jerome (Patti) Dorlac, sister-in-law Dorothy Dorlac, brother in law Joseph Sweeney and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents William Raymond and Mary Adele Dorlac, her infant daughter Jeanne Marie and eight of her siblings.

Calling hours will be held at Thomas Funeral Chapels, Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 10:30 am. Private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Rochester Area Right to Life, 675 Ling Road, Rochester, NY 14612.
