Rochester: August 7, 2014. Age 101. Predeceased by husband, Andrew; daughter, Nancy; son, Edward; Monica is the last of 8 siblings; Joseph Bassett, Mary Collins, Helen Wintercorn, Loretta Streb, Peggy McCarthy, Thomas Bassett, Catherine Neu; sister-in-law, Shirley Wohlganger; many nieces & nephews.
Survived by daughter, Karen VanSwearingen; son, Gerard \"Jerry\" Kermis; grandson, Mark VanSwearingen; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the caretakers and staff at Fleming Point, her daily Mass friends at Holy Cross, Lifetime Assistance, and Holy Childhood School.
Monica was born in 1913 at home in Rochester, she was raised on a farm in Red Creek NY. She was a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse until her marriage, also taught at other area schools as well. Monica was a friend to many people and volunteered at many organizations. Her positive attitude and resilience will be remembered. She was a friend to everyone she met; she will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may call at Thomas Sunday 1-5pm. Funeral Mass, Monday 11am Holy Cross Church. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to Lifetime Assistance, 425 Paul Rd, 14624.
